Ingredients

  • 2 ripe bananas
  • 1 cup almond flour
  • 1/2 cup natural, chunky peanut butter (I used the brand "Smucker's")
  • 1/3 cup honey (or maple syrup)
  • 2 scoops vanilla protein powder (I used the brand "Orgain")
  • 1/4 cup dark chocolate chips (melted, for topping)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon powder
  • 1 pinch sea salt

Instructions

  • In a medium bowl, mash the bananas with the back of a fork until smooth.
  • To the same bowl, add the peanut butter, honey, and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.
  • To the banana mixture, add in the almond flour, protein powder, cinnamon, and salt. Combine ingredients, a dough-like ball should form.
  • Using a tablespoon scoop, roll the dough into bite-sized balls and place onto a small plate or cookie sheet.
  • Melt the chocolate chips in the microwave, about 45 to 60 seconds. Drizzle or dip the top of your "cookie dough" balls with the melted chocolate, measuring with your heart!
  • Refrigerate for at least 15 minutes to set the chocolate, and enjoy!

Why Protein and Fiber Matter—Especially in Sweet Treats!

When we eat foods that are mostly sugar or refined carbohydrates on their own, our blood sugar tends to rise quickly and then drop soon after. This rapid spike and crash can leave us feeling tired, hungry again shortly after eating, or craving more sweets. Pairing carbohydrates with protein and fiber can help slow digestion, leading to a more gradual rise in blood sugar and more stable energy levels.

Protein plays an important role in keeping us satisfied after eating and helps support muscle maintenance and overall body function. Including a source of protein in snacks or desserts can help them feel more filling and balanced.

Fiber is another key nutrient that many people don’t get enough of. It supports digestive and gut health, helps promote fullness, and slows the absorption of sugars into the bloodstream. This is one reason fiber-rich foods are often associated with better blood sugar control and sustained energy throughout the day.

By incorporating ingredients like peanut butter, almond flour, and banana, these Banana Cookie Dough Bites offer a more balanced take on a sweet treat. You still get the flavor and satisfaction of dessert, but with the added benefits of protein and fiber to help support steady energy and fullness.
