Selections & Swaps!

Fruit Selections! The star of the show here is banana, giving a classic, comforting flavor. Ripe bananas work well because they’re naturally sweet and easily mash – making for a strong-flavored syrup without a ton of “extras”. However, don’t feel limited to this!

  • Apples, pears, peaches, or nectarines: Depending on the time of year, get creative with different fruits! These will give a warm, cozy flavor – just make sure to add a little extra cook-time to properly break it down!
  • Blueberries, raspberries, or strawberries: These flavors would add a bright, tangy twist to your coffee or matcha!

Sweetener: I love honey, but if that’s not your first pick, that is A-OK! Maple syrup or agave would substitute just as well. If you only have white or brown sugar on hand, that would work too!

Spices: Cinnamon and a pinch of salt are my go-to, but there are plenty of seasonal flavors you can tap into! Nutmeg, allspice, ginger, and cardamom could all be considered – and if you like gingerbread cookies, you may have just found your new seasonal syrup staple!

How to Use!: This syrup is perfect stirred into coffee, drizzled over oatmeal, pancakes, or yogurt, or even as a quick topping for toast. The flavor is versatile, and the texture is smooth enough to mix easily into any morning favorite!

Let’s Get Started

STEP ONE:

Add a ripe banana to a bowl and mash until smooth. Add banana, honey, cinnamon, and salt to a saucepan over medium heat.

STEP TWO:

Cook until slightly thickened. Add contents to a mesh strainer and push the mixture through until you have separated the larger “chunks” from the thinner liquid. If you like a chunkier syrup – you can skip the strainer step!

STEP THREE:

Add the strained mixture to a bowl. Add 2-4 tablespoons of water (depending on desired consistency) and stir until smooth.

STEP FOUR:

Add to your coffee or other desired food, and enjoy!
